Public Relations is all about relationships—as a student in our program, you will learn how to create, build and maintain relationships with people on behalf of organizations. You’ll learn everything from how to create a strategic PR campaign, to the logistics of developing competitive digital strategies, to the realities of working with local, national and global media organizations. This is all done through the lens of a biblical worldview, informing our perspectives of the value of communication, relationships and people. We believe working in public relations is a sacred calling. Our accomplished faculty integrate this perspective into every facet of your education.
In addition to our competitive curriculum, our program has several distinctives:
- Biola’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter was recognized as a “Star Chapter” in 2013 by PRSSA National, a distinction that less than 10% of PRSSA chapters received. PRSSA is the largest pre-professional organization for students interested in PR throughout the country, with chapters in 300 schools. Our students attend national and regional PRSSA events in locations like Washington DC, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, serve on the national board with PRSSA (something less than 10 students do each year), and participate in competitions with students from around the country.
- 6th Street PR, our student-run PR agency, is nationally affiliated through PRSSA. Affiliation is provide to student agencies that “represent the most accomplished and successful student-run firms.” Students work on real-world campaigns with clients both on and off of Biola’s campus. You’ll have the opportunity to create and implement competitive campaigns that build your portfolio and allow you to integrate your classroom experience into client projects.
- Students have 24-hour access to the Production Studio, with a conference room for brainstorming and pitching to clients, state-of-the-art computers with every program you might needs to create pieces for your clients, and an equipment room where you can rent over 1,000 items including cameras, microphones, and other equipment.
- You will be minutes away from the heart of Los Angeles as well as the center of Orange County. Major organizations and non-profits such as Disney, Warner Bros Studio, Porter Novelli, Fleishman Hillard, The Dream Center, and many others are just a short drive away. Our location is rich with opportunities to launch into the world of public relations.
